The European Union’s steadfast support was pivotal in amplifying Fairtrade NAPP’s impact at the conference. This collaboration emphasized shared equity, sustainability, and empowerment values, enabling Fairtrade to advocate for ethical trade practices that place producers and the planet at the forefront. By backing Fairtrade’s participation, the EU reaffirmed its commitment to building partnerships that strengthen global cooperative movements.
A Booth That Spoke Volumes
Fairtrade’s booth at the exhibition was more than just a display; it was a vivid showcase of sustainable practices and producer empowerment. Featured products included organic coffee, tea, spices, sports balls, and sustainable fabrics from Asia-Pacific producers, each telling a story of resilience and innovation.
Producers such as Seetha Dilip Thampi from Manarcadu Social Service Society, Ananya Tandon from Kisan Samridhi Society, Koustubha Hegde from Sushira Sangeeta Parivara , and Avinash Karmarkar from Pratibha Syntex Ltd. were prominently represented. Their contributions highlighted the diversity and strength of Fairtrade’s producer network.
A visit from a former Fairtrade International Board member (Canada, 2011–2013) underscored the global relevance of Fairtrade’s mission. Supported by the EU, the booth connected producers with markets and advocated for equitable incomes and sustainable practices.
Making Fair Growth a Reality: The Panel Discussion
The conference spotlighted Fairtrade NAPP’s Interim CEO, Erwin Novianto, who participated in a panel discussion on “Strengthening Cooperative Value Chains through Sustainability and Equity.” Erwin eloquently shared his vision of growth intertwined with fairness, declaring:
“We want GROWTH, but we want FAIR GROWTH.”
He detailed how Fairtrade stabilizes incomes through fair pricing, enhances global competitiveness with certification, and upholds cooperative values through democratic governance. His insights resonated with the audience, aligning seamlessly with the conference’s mission to harness cooperatives as tools for sustainable prosperity.
